1.5 Million Strollers Recalled

by Administrator 27. January 2010 06:06

We have yet another recall to tell you about as well as a warning for parents.

Graco is recalling about one and a half million strollers due to fingertip amputation and laceration hazards.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The specific products include Graco Passage, Alano and Spree Strollers as well as Travel Systems and were manufactured out of China.

The problem centers around the hinges on the stroller's canopy. Graco and the CPSC say they pose a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is opening or closing the canopy.

Graco has received seven reports of children placing their fingers in the stroller's canopy hinge mechanism while the canopy was being opened or closed, resulting in five fingertip amputations and two fingertip lacerations.

The strollers were sold at various retail outlets including Burlington Coat Factory, Babies "R" Us, Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Sears and Target among others from October 2004 through December 2009.

Dorel Asia Recalls Cribs over Strangulation and Suffocation Hazard

by Administrator 20. January 2010 17:04

We have yet another recall involving cribs to tell you about. Dorel Asia is recalling as many as 635,000 cribs because they pose strangulation and suffocation hazards. At least one infant has died and 10 injuries have been reported.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Dorel Asia SRL, of Barbados announced the voluntary. It centers around drop side and non-drop side cribs.

The CPSC says the drop side hardware can fail causing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. In addition, the recalled cribs can pose a serious entrapment and strangulation hazard when a slat is damaged. This can occur while the crib is in use, in storage, being put together, taken apart or reassembled; or during shipping and handling.

The cribs were sold at K-Mart, Sears and Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2005 through December 2009 for between $120 and $700 and were manufactured in China and Vietnam.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs, find an alternative safe sleeping environment for your child, and contact Dorel Asia to receive a free replacement kit. Consumers should log on to www.dorel-asia.com to order the free replacement kit to prevent child entrapment in these cribs. The repair kits will be provided to owners within the next several weeks.

The following Dorel Asia cribs are involved in the recall:

Lead in Chinese Jewelry for Kids

by Administrator 11. January 2010 08:39

We have an alert to tell you about. An investigation is underway by U.S product safety officials following a disclosure that links a toxic substance to children’s jewelry imported from China. The investigation comes about following an article by the Associated Press which tested and documented how some Chinese Manufacturers replaced cadmium for lead in cheap charm bracelets and pendants being sold throughout the United States.

As a known carcinogen, Cadmium like lead, can hinder brain development in young children and now the feds are promising to remedy the situation in a very swift manner.

Unfortunately, the risk to children is dangerous, especially since they don’t even have to swallow an item to be exposed. Babies and toddlers can get persistent, low-level doses by regularly sucking or biting jewelry with a high cadmium content.

The Associated Press investigation showed that some of the most troubling test results were for bracelet charms sold at Walmart, at the jewelry chain Claire's and at a dollar store. High amounts of cadmium also were detected in "The Princess and The Frog" movie-themed pendants.

Attorney Jeffrey Killino is no stranger to unsafe toys that contain lead, manufactured outside the United States. He filed a class action lawsuit to compel Mattel to provide free testing of all children who played with lead toys back in 2007. He was also responsible for causing a national recall of 450,000 tires manufactured in China.
