Parental supervision is important to help prevent many of the injuries to children as they are growing up.  It is important that children are not left alone for extended periods of time or the likelihood for accident increases.

Sometimes, supervision is not enough.  Some products that are made and available to the public can contain safety flaws that were never noticed until it is too late. These types of products are difficult to prevent an accident from occurring, because many of the items may seem harmless.

Officials at Nestle has instituted a recall of some of the Nestle cookie dough products after many individuals have gotten sick after ingesting the product.  The individuals got sick from Ecoli 0157.

Initially,  officials believed that it was another product linked to the Ecoli outbreak,  however an investigation determined that Nestle cookie dough was the common link between the cases being reported.  At least 65 people  have become ill in over 29 states.

Study Shows Children in Poor Family Have Higher Fatality Rates

by Administrator 17. June 2009 04:48

A study has recently been released that compares the rates of child fatalities across a wide spectrum of data.  The study has been able to show that children that come from families that are below the poverty line have a higher occurrence of child fatalities.

This study pointed out that poor families may not be able to afford a lot of the medical costs.   Also,  children from a poor family typically will have lower quality toys or items around the household.  These cheap items sometimes have very dangerous materials or safety hazards.

Computers Causing Rise in Child Injuries

by Administrator 15. June 2009 06:15

With the more prevalent use of computers, the number of children being injured in the home is increasing.  Computers can pose a unique set of risks for children.

To begin,  most computer injuries to children occur when a computer falls on the child.  This can occur many times with cords causing the child to trip and pull the computer on top of the children.

Other injuries are being reported such as electrocution and other injuries from faulty computer products.

Computers should be properly secured to help prevent injury.  Further, computers should be inspected to make sure they do not pose an electrical risk.
