Be Careful When Backing Vehicle Up

by Administrator 22. May 2009 02:25

Many people are negligent when they back their vehicles up in busy areas. For example, if you go to a shopping center or mall.  When leaving the parking lot, an individual may back up without properly looking behind the vehicle to ensure that it is clear.

Many times people are looking for other cars but fail to consider the possibility of a young child standing behind the vehicle.  Some young children may not be noticed because of their height when backing out.  Because of this,  it is extremely important to verify that the back of a vehicle is all clear when reversing.  Many child injuries are caused by individuals backing into the child without knowing.

Teach Children About Proper Computer Usage

by Administrator 20. May 2009 06:45

Children are getting on the computer and using the internet now more than ever.  In many cases,  the child in the family may know more about computers than the parent.

It is important to realize some of the dangers associated with spending time on the internet.  First, make sure that if your child has access to the internet, that you are able to monitor what websites are appropriate.  Although installing monitoring software can be one solution, in many cases they do not work.  It is important to be a parent and to talk with your children about what is and what isn't appropriate. The life lessons you teach a child will carry on with them for many years.

Swimming Pools and Children

by Administrator 15. May 2009 03:32

Swimming pools can provide relief from the summer heat, and can offer a wonderful place for a family to spend time at.  However,  swimming pools can be very dangerous for children, and can pose a great risk of death for children who are near one with-out proper supervision.

When a swimming pool is built, precautions need to be taken to make the pull inaccessible to small children.  Fences should be put up, as well as other barriers that a child would not be able to get through.  This is because swimming pools are responsible for a large amount of drowning deaths in the United States.

Pet Doors Can Pose Threat to Children

by Administrator 8. May 2009 01:36

Many people move into homes or purchase a home where a pet door or "doggie door" is installed.  The idea is that pets are able to move in and outside of the house.  Although it may seem like a good idea to have for animal lovers, if you have a child in the house, it may be a bad idea.

Pet doors have been linked to numerous incidents where a child was either hurt or killed because of the door.  Although a full size adult would be unable to get in or out of a pet door, their size makes them perfect for children.  It has been reported in many cases that a child will go through the door and then be exposed to the dangers outside a house.  Cases of a child crawling through a pet door and drowning in the family pool have been reported.  As well as cases where a child crawls through the door and out onto the street into traffic.

If you have a child,  do not risk having a pet door in your house.

Child injuries are very serious and can leave a parent feeling helpless.  If your child has been injured in an accident involving a pet door,  please contact the child injury attorney Jeffrey Killino at 877-875-2927 to learn how he can help.
