Window Blinds Can Pose Hazard to Children

by Administrator 29. April 2009 04:20

Window blinds can pose a very dangerous hazard to young children.  As young children crawl or walk around the floor of homes or other areas,  they tend to 'play' with what they have access to.  Over the past few years,  one of the hazards that many have not considered is windows blinds.

Windows blinds can pose a hazard to young children because of the loop pull cords that is used to open or close the blinds.  These cords have been reported to cause strangulation in some children who come across them.  Safety measures have occurred over the last few years to better address this problem,  however that does not mean that the problem has been eliminated.  Many blinds are old and do not have the latest standards,  still posing a risk. Further, if a recall took place in the past, many families may be unaware of the recall or of the dangers of the product.

If you have a young child,  verify that your window blinds are safe.

Manufacturers Must Make Safer Products

by Administrator 22. April 2009 06:20

Toy manufacturers have a certain responsibility that is important for parents and children. From a manufacturers perspective, a toy should be safe for the parents benefit, so that the parent can have a peace of mind when their child is playing with a specific. A toy should also be safe for the benefit of the children to prevent any injuries.

Almost all of the responsibility lies with the manufacturers in producing products that are safe.  It should not be the parents obligation to go home and conduct tests, research, and analysis to decide if a toy is safe.

Last year, a record number of recalls occurred because of a lack of testing.  Hopefully lessons have been learned from the past, and toy manufacturers take on more responsibility.

by Administrator 8. April 2009 07:37

Recently,  peanuts were tied to a large salmonella outbreak in the nation.  Over 600 people were sickened, and at least 9 people died as a result of the contamination.

Many children were sickened as a result of these products being unsafe.  The bright side of this salmonella outbreak, is that it has led to improved standards in the food industry.  Many companies are taking a more aggressive approach to food safety.  Also,  the government has increased regulation and other standards in the hopes that this type of occurrence does not happen again.
